About my place…

My place. A place that is special to me. A place where I live. A place where I used to live. A place where I visit or used to visit.

Do you have memories of a place within the Bega Valley Shire that is or has been important to you?

If you have lived or are living in the Shire, we invite you to share your story of a place within the Bega Valley Shire that is special to you, for whatever reason. The "place" may be a house, street, farm, locality, village, town, park, beach or monument.

We want to gather as many memories as possible of the various places within our Shire. What an opportunity to document in a personal way how those places have changed and are still changing. Your memories are precious and we want to share them with others through my place…

How has your place changed? Why was, or is, it important to you?

What buildings or houses were in your place? What was it like growing up in your place?

How have the places, the villages and towns in our Shire changed over the decades? How has farming changed and adapted to the different challenges of, for example climate, isolation, machinery? How have the businesses in our villages and towns changed over the years? How have our communities changed?

my place… gives you the opportunity to share your memories and perspectives on our history.

If you have a memory that you wish to share just register and send your story to Linda Albertson at the Bega Library and it will be placed on the my place… website on your behalf.

How much should I write?
As much or as little as you wish. Remember that you are writing for others so make it interesting and relevant. It's great to have photographs too, so if you would like to send in a photo, please do so. If you are sending a digital image, please send it as a jpg or send in your original pic and we will scan it and return the original to you.

We want stories from all decades. It would be helpful if you did include an approximate date for your story.

Who can participate?
Everyone has memories! So anyone who has lived or is living in our Shire can be involved. There are no age limits. All you have to do is register as a contributor.

How do I send it in?
Your memory of my place... can be posted, emailed or dropped into any library in the Shire, marked attention Linda Albertson. You must include your full name and contact details. However when the story is placed on the web you can choose to use a nickname, initials or your full name.

Once it is received I will make any necessary changes in consultation with you.
