Dr
George Mountain
Bellbirds
chink in monotone.
Over granite monoliths
in valleys
waterfalls spill on tree
ferns
and delicate maidenhair.
On The
Diggings
black folk collect wood
for night-time fires.
"Rubbish," the forester
said;
chain-sawing for the mill
he left residue.
Near
shafts of the thirties
where white men sweated a
fever
that was gold
a small family gathers
left-overs.
