Community Art Gallery

About the Bega Valley Regional Gallery:

The Bega Valley Regional Gallery is one of approximately 40 regional galleries in New South Wales. Despite being the smallest, it attracts more than 8,000 visitors every year through a comprehensive schedule of exhibitions and public programs.

The focus of the gallery’s exhibitions is on local art and craft but it also accepts state and national touring exhibitions.

The gallery houses permanent collections belonging to Bega Valley Shire Council and the Bega Art and Craft Society.

In addition to a changing annual program of exhibitions and public programs, the Bega Valley Regional Gallery hosts three biennial exhibitions on a rotational basis:

The gallery is open 10am-4pm Tuesday to Friday and 9am-12pm Saturdays and there is plenty of carparking nearby.

Bega Valley Art Awards

Biennial exhibition

The Bega Valley Art Awards are held every second year in October and continue to bring out the best in local artists. The Exhibition is traditionally, a celebration and showcase of the depth and diversity of art practice in the Bega Valley Region.

Entries are accepted from artists living within the South East Arts (SEAR) region including Cooma Monaro, Eurobodalla, Bega Valley, Snowy River and Bombala Shires.

The exhibition is one of the gallery’s most important biennial community exhibitions.

There is substantial prize money on offer (any subject, any medium) First Prize $1,000, Second Prize $500 and People’s Choice Award $500 (Note: total prize pool may be raised in the future)

The Shirley Hannan National Portrait Awards

Biennial exhibition

The Awards are a celebration of realistic portraiture and are becoming nationally recognised as the pre-eminent showcase for realistic portraiture in Australia. Sadly our patron Mrs Shirley Hannan passed away in late 2005. However her passion for portraiture lives on in this, now biennial exhibition.(next 2008) The Awards boast a first prize of $30,000. The exhibition attracts many of Australia’s most prominent portrait painters and competition is intense.

The next Shirley Hannan Portrait Award is scheduled for June 2008. Entry forms and conditions will be available for download January 2008.

Out of the Box

Biennial exhibition

An exhibition of small treasures!

Held in October every second year (next 2009) "Out of the Box" presents a smorgasbord of small art works by local artists from within the limited dimensions of an Australia Post Gift Box.

The boxes, which measure 165mm by 137mm by 114 mm are available at Australia Post Offices and present a great challenge for artists to produce some very interesting works.

A great opportunity for collectors to purchase innovative works of art at a very reasonable price.
