Health and Medical Information

Here are some tips in finding health and medical information, when you visit your local library.  There are also some websites listed, that are worth trying out.

  1. Search the Library Catalogue

Diseases
Do a word search using the name of the disease or condition.  Most books on diseases can be found at the following call numbers:  612 - 619.

Anatomy and how the body works
Look on the Library shelves under 610 - 612.

Biology
Look on the Library shelves in the 570s.

  1. Check the reference collection

Most of these are located at Bega Library, but check branch library's reference collection at the same call numbers.

Gale Health and Wellness Resource Centre : includes access to some full text information, such as articles and excerpts from dictionaries and encyclopaedias.  Accessible from Member Services from Search the Catalogue.  Once in Member Services, click on Databases.

Provides access to high quality consumer health information.  Full text

Drug information @ Your Local Library
http://www.druginfo.sl.nsw.gov.au
A joint initiative of the State Library of NSW and the NSW Premiers Department as part of the Community Drug Information Strategy.  Operates as a gateway to other websites on illicit drugs.

 

The Bega Library also holds a small reference book and pamphlet collection on drugs as part of the above initiative.  Located opposite the photocopier.

The Bega Library subscribes to Choice Magazi9ne, which often includes articles on health related matters.  An index is published each year.
