Legal Information

How do I change my name?  How do I find out about going to court?

You can find out the answers to these questions by checking out the Legal Information Access Collection at the Bega Valley Shire Library (LIAC collection).

Each branch library has a Legal Tool Kit, which is a regularly updated collection of plain language books about various aspects of Australian law.  As well as the Legal Tool Kit, Bega Library also holds the Law Books for Libraries collection, which offers more extensive resources on Australian law, including videos.

If you are interested in a particular legal topic, check out the magazine style Hot Topics series.  Hot Topics documents recent changes and current debates in the law.  Each topic provides comprehensive coverage in plain language on a particular topic, written and vetted by legal professionals.  Case studies, further reading and contacts are included.  Recent Hot Topic titles include Consumers and Money, Discrimination, Employment and the Law, Intellectual Disability and Criminal law, and Human Rights.  Great for school projects!

Each of our libraries, also has a range of free pamphlets on legal issues.

The collection is supported by the State Library of NSW.
