Searching the Internet

The Internet is an unstructured medium with pages and pages of information being added every day from all over the world. It has no order to it and you need to think before you start your search or you will find it a very frustrating experience.

  • Narrow your search term down. A broad term will return hundreds maybe thousands of pages.  e.g.  Dogs may show up 100,000 references but Labrador dogs  may only show  1,000 references.

  • Use any filters that the search engine allows. If you only want to search for Australian information and your search engine allows you to select that option use it!.

We are providing links to a number of search engines. Google is the one we in the library enjoy and get our best results from If you believe there should be others on the list tell us and we will add them.
