Crossroads :
Conference exhibition
In conjunction with the Social Planning
conference, a small exhibition of selected
works was on display in the Bega Valley
Regional Gallery. The exhibition showcased
work by artists who have received support
through a variety of programs in recent
years and provide a snapshot of the diverse
cultural activity.
Five projects
represented were:
-
Art in the Garage
-
'Now a river went
out of Eden' by Ruth Maddison
-
Progressive Print
Project 2004
-
Recent work by
indigenous artist Cheryl Davison, and

Having successfully
exhibited the Shire, the diverse
talents of these artists are also
acknowledged more broadly with individual
artists having their works exhibited in
prestigious galleries in Sydney and
Canberra. Artworks have also been purchased
for private collections around Australia.
The Art in the Garage Project, co-ordinated
by Matthew Perry, provides important new
links to a wider community through an
ongoing series of exhibitions.
The project was initially funded through
The Mumbulla Foundation and The Bega Valley
Community Development and Support
Expenditure scheme.
Now a river went
out of Eden is not only a quote from
Genesis but also the title for a
photographic project by established artist
Ruth Maddison. The series of 42 portraits
of youth of Eden with accompanying text
responds to the question: Where do you see
your future? The work was made between 2000
and 2002. It has been exhibited at Bega
Valley Regional Gallery (2002), Stills
Gallery in Sydney (2003), and Newcastle
Regional Gallery (2004). A complete set of
the work was purchased for the Mitchell
Collection of the State Library of NSW
