Proposed changes to fees for Bega Valley Children's Services

At its meeting on November 10, 2009 Bega Valley Shire Council resolved to advertise proposed changes to its child care and pre school fees to be effective from January 1, 2010. Submissions can be made up until close of business on December 17, 2009.

There is a minor amendment to the table in item 5 Community and Cultural Committee – Review of new Childcare Regulations. As required in the terms of our recent funding increase there is no change to the Second Child rate for the $45-61,000 income category.

In accordance with Section 420 of the Local Government Act, 1993, any person may make a submission in writing to Council with respect to Council’s audited Financial Statements or the Auditors reports.  Submissions must be lodged with Council by December 1, 2009.

Copies of Council’s audited financial reports, together with the auditor’s reports are available for inspection by members of the public at Council’s Bega Office and at the branch libraries at Bermagui, Eden and Merimbula.

Planning proposal

Land known as Le Ander Gardens, Old Tilba Road, Wallaga Lake – Lot 41 DP 752130.

The above planning proposal is intended to amend the Bega Valley Local Environmental Plan 2002 to allow, subject to the lodgement and consideration of a Development Application the erection of a function centre on the above land.

The Director-General of the Department of Planning has determined that an amendment to the Bega Valley Local Environmental Plan as described above should proceed to allow for public consultation.

The planning proposal is available for public inspection at the Council office in Bega between 8.30am and 4.30pm Monday to Friday from November 18, 2009 until 5.00pm on December 1, 2009 and between the same dates at the Bermagui Community Centre.

Written submissions in accordance with Section 67 of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act will be received until 5pm on December 1, 2009 in respect of the planning proposal and addressed to the General Manager, Council Chambers Zingel Place, Bega 2550.  Submissions may also be made by emailing council@begavalley.nsw.gov.au.

Australia Day nominations open

Nominations are open for the 2010 Bega Valley Shire Council Citizen of the Year and Junior Citizen of the Year Awards as part of the shire’s Australia Day celebrations.

Nominees should be Australian citizens and information should include such details as service to the community or of a distinguished performance over the past 12 months.

Details such as the roles and periods of service or achievement and any supporting documentation, for example press releases or references, will assist in considering the nomination.

Previous nominations will be accepted.

Proposed fee structure: David Ramsey Memorial Rose Garden, Pambula Cemetery

Council has resolved to include the following new fees into the Council’s fees and charges.

The proposed fee structure reflects the quality and appeal of the memorial rose garden as a place to inter ashes. It is anticipated that plots 1-26 will be used by couples with two interments under the one memorial or ‘Desk’, each with an individual plaque. The four corner plots (plots 27-30) are available for family groups to use for a maximum of four interments.

Weed Control Program - November 2009

Proposed roadside and public land weed control program. Spot-spraying of weeds may be carried out in other areas as appropriate. The weed program is dependent on weather conditions and may be varied according to weed growth.

If you object to the proposal you need to tell us in your letter why you object to it. All written submissions should be forwarded to The General Manager, Bega Valley Shire Council, PO Box 492, Bega NSW 2550.

Any person who makes a submission by way of objection may appeal to the Land and Environment Court under Section 98 of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 if they are unhappy with Councils decision. If the Planning Assessment Commission conducts a review, the Minister’s determination of the application is final and not subject to appeal.

Under the provisions of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 this development is classed as Designated Development.

It is also classed as ‘Integrated Development’ which means that approval is also required from Department of Environment, Climate Change and Water. An Environment Protection Licence (EPL) is required in accordance with the provisions of the Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997.

You can purchase a copy of the EIS from Bega Valley Shire Council. The report is available on CD for $10 or hardcopy for $25. To obtain copies of the EIS contact Bega Valley Shire Council. The EIS is also available on the Council’s website.

EOI - General Sportsgrounds and Recreation Committee representatives

Are you passionate about providing sporting and recreation opportunities to the residents of the Shire?  If you are then Council is asking you to submit an expression of interest (EOI) to join the newly formed General Sportsgrounds and Recreation Committee.

This Committee will be constituted under Section 355 of the NSW Local Government Act (1993), be Chaired by a Councillor and have secretariat support from a staff member.  The Committee will be Council's peak advisory group for all sportsground and recreational matters.  Primary roles will be to establish project priorities and to recommend expenditure of funds.

Expressions of Interest must be lodged on the form available on Council's website at www.begavalley.nsw.gov.au or by contacting Council on 6499 2222 or emailing Council's Corporate Planner, Adrian Weedon on aweedon@begavalley.nsw.gov.au.

Management of the Narira Village Complex

Due to increasing demands in the Community Housing Sector Council is seeking to identify a local not for profit accredited Community Housing Provider to assume management of the complex under a lease/licence arrangement.

Narira is a 10 Unit Community Housing development located in the village of Cobargo currently run by a Section 355 Committee of Council.
