Brogo pump station Upgrade

May 20, 2008: Residents in the northern part of the Bega Valley Shire are being asked to be more thrifty than usual in their use of water next week.

Major electrical upgrade works on the Brogo Water Pump Station will mean that Council will be unable to pump water from the Brogo River next Tuesday and Wednesday, May 27 and 28.

Council’s operations engineer, Paul Clayson, said the Brogo pump station was built in 1984 and was state of the art when constructed.

"To maintain the high level of reliability required of this facility we need to carry out a major upgrade of the electrical equipment," he said.

"This means that we will not be able to pump water from the Brogo River for up to 48 hours.

"During this time we ask our customers in Bermagui, Cobargo, Quaama, Fairhaven, Wallaga Lake, Beauty Point and Akolele to be even thriftier with their water use than normal next Tuesday and Wednesday.

"Our system has the capacity for 48 hours’ supply, however we need the community to be very aware of their water usage to ensure this project is completed successfully," Mr Clayson said.
