Youth Council applications closing soon
May 28, 2008: Young people with an interest
youth issues or who have ideas on how to make positive changes for
young people can make their contribution through the Bega Valley
Shire Youth Council.
Council’s community development officer, Emma
Benton, says that if you have time to contribute to the Youth
Council over the next 12 months then you should nominate as a youth
councillor for 2008-09 period.
Nominations close next Monday, June 2, and the
committee will serve from July 1, 2008 .to June 30, 2009.
Last week the Youth Council held a successful day
of bare foot bowls and a barbecue at the Bega Bowling Club which
gave interested young people the opportunity to find out more about
the group.
"There are still places available on the 11 member
Youth Council and it is hoped to fill them with people from diverse
backgrounds and stages of life and localities to ensure that the
Youth Council represents a cross section of the young people in the
Bega Valley Shire," Ms Benson said.
"Youth Council members will not only be
identifying and addressing youth community issues, but will also
develop a whole new range of skills and have the opportunity to be
involved in various youth Initiatives and forums. "
