Celebrate NAIDOC Week with family history

June 30, 2008: Indigenous family history will be the subject of workshop in Eden to celebrate NAIDOC Week next month July.

The Bega Valley Shire Library has invited staff from the family history unit of the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS) to talk about Indigenous family history and the services they provide.

The Library’s local and family history librarian, Linda Albertson, said the visitors would also discuss the unique issues and resources associated with Indigenous family history research, including the Institute’s own collections.

"They will demonstrate the AIATSIS library’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Biographical Index (ABI) and the Dawn and New Dawn magazines," she said.

"Brochures and other material about the AIATSIS Family History Unit and Indigenous family history research will be available.

"This event is free and will be held at the Eden Fishermen's Recreation Club on Thursday, July 10. Morning tea will be provided at 10am with the talk starting at 10.30am."

Bookings are essential, phone Bega Library on 6499 2127.
