Real Men Wear Pink at Bandara Children's Services
Bandara Children's Services in Bega turned a vibrant shade of pink on Friday, thanks to educator Daryl Kelland.

Bandara Children’s Services in Bega turned a vibrant shade of pink on Friday, thanks to educator Daryl Kelland.
Daryl fully embraced “Real Men Wear Pink Day” raising money for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
“My mum is a breast cancer survivor,” Daryl said.
“And many of my workmates here at Bandara have their own connection to the disease, so we were keen to get behind the cause.”
Daryl and his pink uniform raised $1157 for breast cancer research, of which $157 was raised through the sale of handcrafted pink cupcakes.
“The kids spent Friday icing and decorating cupcakes that their parents ordered for 50 cents each,” Daryl said.
“Demand has outstripped supply, so I am very grateful for the support.”
So much so that Bandara had to call on extra supplies of icing sugar.
In explaining the reasons for the day to the children of Bandara, Daryl kept it simple.
“We explained to them that the day was about helping people who are sick,” he said.
“There’s also a great message of inclusion and diversity that goes with the day, boys and girls leave with the idea that anyone can wear pink,” Daryl said.
