Under sections 252 and 253 of the Local Government Act 1993, and the Office of Local Government’s (OLG) Guidelines for the payment of expenses and the provision of facilities for mayors and councillors in NSW, Council must adopt a policy concerning the payment of expenses and the provision of facilities to the Mayor, the Deputy Mayor and the other Councillors.
These guidelines, and the Local Government Act, require that this policy is placed on exhibition for community consultation and comment prior to adoption by Council. If Council proposes to adopt this policy with or without amendment, it must first exhibit the draft policy for a minimum period of 28 days. Council must also invite and allow submissions on the draft policies for a period of 42 days.
At its meeting on 23 July 2025, Council resolved to adopt its policy for payment of expenses and provision of facilities to Councillors.
Have Your Say
Council is seeking community feedback on its draft policy related to the payment of expenses and provision of facilities to Councillors. The draft Policy can be accessed by clicking on the links in the ‘related documents’ section and can also be viewed in hard copy at any library branch.
