Nominations are being called for a Shire award that recognises the selfless commitment to community by local volunteers.
Mayor Michael Britten said the Bega Valley Shire Medallion is an annual award that outlines the outstanding work of unsung volunteers across our community.
“The medallion award is always well received in the community because it goes to people who never look for rewards or recognition,” he said.
“One of our great strengths as a community is the selfless nature of volunteers who work hard solely for the good of others.
“We have literally hundreds of people in our towns and villages who are prepared to give up their time to help the community.
“Through the shire medallion, we have a way to acknowledge this work and to say thank you to our volunteers.
“We encourage local organisations, individuals and families to get behind our volunteers and nominate someone you know for the medallion.
“We know from past experience that some people are reluctant to nominate a person because they think that someone else has done it.
“This is not always the case and we are more than happy to receive dual nominations,” Cr Britten said.
Official nomination forms are available from Council’s website www.begavalley.nsw.gov.au or by phoning Tamara Whiting on 6499 2222. Nominations close on Friday 19 June 2015.
Nominations that have been submitted since the last ceremony will be considered as part of the nomination process.
