Bega Valley Shire Council is looking for people with an eye to the future who are willing to share their ideas or experiences for developing vibrant and lively town centres, to inform a Commercial Land Strategy for the Shire’s towns.
Council’s Director Community, Environment and Planning, Dr Alice Howe, says a Commercial Land Strategy will provide a framework for the future development of our town centres that is sympathetic to their unique character.
“The Strategy will also help us to plan opportunities for local economic development and employment generation.
“We’re looking for community members to join other stakeholders, like chambers of commerce, land and business owners and the property industry, to provide input through workshop participation,” Dr Howe said.

We’re looking for people who can:
- provide objective feedback and input into the project
- represent a range of stakeholders
- represent a balanced cross section of the community.
A maximum of one member from interested groups and bodies will be selected to avoid over-representation by any one group.
Participation will involve attending a two-hour workshop on either Tuesday 27 August or Wednesday 28 August.
The aim of the workshops is to establish an agreed framework for the future development of our town centres using contemporary planning principles that have been successful in creating vibrant and energetic places here in Australia and overseas.
Workshops will be held in Bega, Bermagui, Eden, Merimbula, Pambula and Tathra.
