Act now to start your career as a swim teacher

Don’t let a career as a qualified swim instructor slip through your fingers, now is the time to act.

Don’t let a career as a qualified swim instructor slip through your fingers, now is the time to act.

The deadline to register for the Austswim teacher program in Pambula is lunchtime this Thursday.

“At the moment we don’t have enough people registered to run the course,” Leanne Webb, Aquatic Facilities Coordinator said.

“This sort of training isn’t offered outside of Sydney and Melbourne very often, being able to do it so close to home takes away that added financial hurdle of travel and accommodation.”

Completing the basic Austswim training is enough to start earning money and building a love and knowledge of the water for children.

Instructors earn between $21 and $26 per hour, plus casual loading and 9.5% superannuation, with demand for classes locally outstripping the number of teachers.

“We need people from a range of backgrounds and ages. And class times with children fit well with family life and other work or study commitments,” Ms Webb said.

Ongoing training and mentoring would be part of your swim career with Bega Valley Shire Council, with further study options available taking in coaching and squad training and working alongside people with disabilities.

The two days of training are this Saturday and Sunday (May 14 and 15), between 8:30am and 5:30pm, at the Sapphire Aquatic Centre in Pambula, cost is $405 payable to AustSwim.

More information can be found on the AustSwim website: http://www.austswim.com.au/Training/AUSTSWIMCourses.aspx

Registration closes at lunchtime this Thursday, to book a place call Leanne Webb now on 6494 3100
