Pre-poll opens Monday for Local Government Election

Friday 26 August 2016

Bega Valley Shire Council is one of 81 councils around New South Wales going the polls.

The first votes will be cast on Monday when pre-poll voting opens in the old Council Chambers in Zingel Place Bega.

Election Day itself is Saturday 10 September, but for those who can’t be in the Shire on the day, pre-poll voting allows you to still have your say.

There are a number of pre-poll locations open and available for Bega Valley voters prior to September 10:

  • Bega Valley Shire Council - Zingel Place Office
    10 Zingel Place
Monday 29 August until Friday 9 September, open Monday to Saturday 9am-5pm

  • NSW Electoral Commission office, Moruya
    39 Vulcan Street
    Monday 29 August until Friday 9 September, open Monday to Friday 8:30am – 5:30pm, Friday 9 September 8:30am – 6pm, Saturday 3 September 9am – 5pm
  • Twyford Hall, Merimbula
    Market Street

  • Bermagui Community Centre
    9 Bunga Street
    Thursday 8 September and Friday 9 September, 9am – 4:30pm

  • Eden Library
    Mitchell Street
    Thursday 8 September until Friday 9 September, 9am – 4:30pm

It’s important to realise that absentee voting is not available at Local Government Elections; you can only cast a vote on the day within the boundaries of your Local Government Area, which is why pre-poll voting is so important.

Your other option is a postal vote, applications are open until 5 September. Details are available via the Vote NSW website.

There are 26 candidates standing for election to the nine places on Bega Valley Shire Council.

It is up to each candidate to make themselves known and engage with the community ahead of polling day.

Candidate details can viewed via the Vote NSW website.

Fairfax Media is also conducting a Candidates Forum on Wednesday 31 August, 6:30pm at Club Sapphire, Merimbula.
