Short Point viewing platform renewal

Short Point view platform.Have Your Say - On the design for the Short Point viewing platform!

The Short Point viewing platform is beginning to show its age and is due for renewal. It has been retained in the draft Short Point Coastal accessibility master plan as it gives a good viewing point of the beach, including the southern corner and rock platform.

The draft viewing platform design incorporating two options is on public exhibition for community feedback until 10 May 2018.

With specific objectives of reducing the size of the existing platform and incorporating storage for surf lifesaving equipment (so shipping container in the carpark is not needed each year) the proposed design will also look to improve the shower facilities at the location.

Option one is about 25% smaller than the existing platform. It focusses directly on the above objectives.

Option two is about 15% smaller than the existing platform. While also meeting those objectives it shows an extension linking the platform to the top of the existing concrete stairway to the beach and provides additional seating and viewing space.

Two options for shower location are also shown, one on each platform option. These are interchangeable, i.e. the second shower option can be applied to the first platform option, and vice versa. Other options for shower locations can also be considered pending feedback to the below poll, for example down near the beach at the bottom of the steps.
