Bega Valley Shire Council is calling for nominations for the 2016 Senior of the Year award.
Held as part of national Senior’s Festival celebrations in April this year, the prestigious award is voted by BVSC Councillors to honour a senior resident who has made an outstanding contribution to the community.
Community Development Coordinator, Anne Cleverley said Council and the community would like to recognise an older person who has consistently supported our community over a number of years.
“It can be in any field of endeavour, such as arts, sports, community service, heath, education or environment,” she said.
“These awards are always special, because attached to them are wonderful stories of life in the Shire from the past and present.
“With it also comes another chapter of the Shire’s history, recorded and celebrated for everybody to remember.
“To be eligible, the person nominated must live in the Bega Valley Shire and be over 60 years of age, and should be making a contribution to the community in a volunteer capacity.
“The Senior of the Year award will be a highlight among many activities being held across the Shire in Seniors Festival Week, including those assisted by the Senior’s Festival Grants which are provided by Council to local groups.” Ms Cleverley said.
The award will be presented to the successful nominee at the Golden Gig luncheon and concert, to be held on Tuesday 5 April 2016.
Nomination forms are available at Council’s administration desk in Bega, or can be downloaded from the BVSC website www.begavalley.nsw.gov.au
