For those impacted by the recent bushfires, Bega Valley Shire Council is accepting fire affected waste, free of charge, at the following waste facilities:

  • Wallagoot
  • Merimbula
  • Candelo
  • Bermagui
  • Eden

Please note that Council is not yet able to accept large structural type materials such as that from houses or sheds.

Many fire affected structures have the potential to contain asbestos material.  We ask that all residents refrain from any clean-up activities of these structures, until Council can advise otherwise.

Council are working with all relevant agencies to address and manage this risk. Council will advise when and where these materials can be disposed of at a later date.

The type of fire affected items that can be disposed of, for free at this time, include items such as:

  • fire affected outdoor furniture
  • smaller household items
  • garden implements
  • dog kennels
  • clothes lines
  • trampolines
  • food.

Materials accepted free of charge will be assessed by waste facility staff.

The waiver of fees will be reviewed weekly and residents will be updated accordingly.

Tip opening times can be found on Council’s website, the free Bega Valley Waste App, and the Bega Valley Shire Council and Waste and Recycling Facebook pages.
