Techy teenagers will have an opportunity to further their gaming skills at a Game Development Workshop at Tura Marrang library on Friday 20 January, starting at 10am.
Programs and Partnerships Officer, Scott Baker said that the workshop is for young people aged 13-18 years who are taking their first steps with game design and development.
“The workshop will be facilitated by industry experts, it will be fun and local kids will be able to experiment with 100% hands-on practice and play,” he said.
“Using Unity 5 software, the development tool used by the gaming industry, this workshop will give kids an insight into the sort of technology skills relevant to their future,” Mr Baker said.
Facilitators from Devika Learning, based in Wollongong, will help participants become online content creators by guiding them through the process of building their own basic level platform game.
Participants are asked to bring their own device such as a laptop with minimum i5 Processor, 4GB RAM and either Windows 7 or OSX (or later). The library will also make a few laptops available on the day.
It is recommended to have Unity 5 Personal Edition installed prior to the workshop. Install and setup of Unity 5 is free and there are links to the download from the online booking website below.
The workshop fee of $20 is payable on the day and bookings are essential as places are limited. Book online at www.begavalleyshirelibrary.eventbrite.com.au Please bring your own lunch and drink.
For keen gamers, this workshop is ideal preparation for the Global Game Jam® (GGJ) on later that day at 4pm at Lumen Christi Catholic College.
The Global Game is the world's largest game creation event. All sites worldwide are challenged to make games based on the same theme, with games to be completed by Sunday afternoon.
