Coastal Accessibility Projects Community Survey

Wednesday 12 December 2015

Bega Valley Shire Council is working with planning consultants to develop masterplans for the Bruce Steer Pool area in Bermagui, Short Point in Merimbula and the Pambula Surf Club precinct with a view to them becoming more inclusive and accessible recreational spaces.

Council’s Leisure and Recreation Manager, John Grady said the local pristine waterways and beaches are a key attraction for many, but these areas often present access issues for some people in the community.

“The rugged nature of our coastline in many ways provides the Shire with an identity, but unfortunately for people with mobility limitations it is the characteristic that restricts and in many cases prevents them from enjoying the activities many take for granted,” he said.

“We are working with Spiire consultants develop masterplans that will guide future improvements in these areas.

“A key element in ensuring these projects produce the best possible result will be community consultation. As the first step Council and Spiire are keen for locals and visitors to have their say on the future of the sites with an online survey,” Mr Grady said.

To participate in the survey go to Council’s website www.begavalley.nsw.gov.au
