Bega Valley Shire Council is providing a Giving Tree for donations to families requiring support this Christmas period.
Many families across the Bega Valley Shire rely on support from community organisations throughout the year to help them make ends meet.
The Giving Tree will be in the Council’s main foyer in Zingel Place, until Monday 21 December.
Members of the community are encouraged to drop off unwrapped, non-perishable items that can be donated prior to Christmas Day.
Council’s Manager of Community, Culture and Information, Simon Schweitzer, said Council is committed to supporting families who need assistance and those community organisations that provide it.
“Council and its staff members, through our Goodwill Committee, do a lot of fundraising throughout the year to support local charity organisations, and donations to the Giving Tree will hopefully make the Christmas period a little easier on some families,” he said.
“The Christmas period can be a particularly challenging and stressful time, and Council wants to make available options for the community to help out.
“Council’s Goodwill Committee will distribute the donated items before Christmas Day,” Mr Schweitzer said.
