Lake Street scope change approved
Bega Valley Shire Council has received formal approval from the Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) to vary the scope of the Lake Street Shared Path Project in Merimbula.

Bega Valley Shire Council has received formal approval from the Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) to vary the scope of the Lake Street Shared Path Project in Merimbula.
The approval means that Council will now be able to proceed with the delivery of ‘Option G’ that involves the path now only linking Rotary Park with Bar Beach and the existing two-way road configuration along Lake Street being maintained.
Council was originally the recipients of $2 million in funding under the NSW State Government 2017-18 Active Transport Program for the design and construction of a 1.7km shared use path from Main Street to the Merimbula Wharf along Lake Street, however following extensive community consultation it was resolved to pursue the truncated option.
Council’s Manager Project Development, Daniel Djikic, said the design being undertaken by Thompson Berrill Landscape Design is progressing well, but is dependent on the outcome of the geotechnical, heritage and ecological investigations, which are currently being commissioned and undertaken.
“The intention is that the path will take the form of a simple on-ground concrete path adjacent to the existing road wherever possible, however four distinct treatments will be required,” Mr Djikic said.
“As further design detail is developed more accurate costings will be prepared and by identifying different treatment types upfront it also provides the opportunity to package up sections of the work to get the most cost effective overall outcome.
“The project started as a community project proposal from the Bureau of Accessible Tourism (BOAT) and we will be providing regular updates to the group as we progress.
“Prior to construction commencing, a construction impacts plan will be developed and communicated to the relevant stakeholders and community,” Mr Djikic said.
The final design is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
