In 2018 Bega Valley Shire Council introduced the FOGO bin collection service, resulting in changes to the collections for households and businesses.
Here is a simple guide to the current bin collection services.
Helping you to keep your bins contamination free
If our waste collection drivers or in-truck cameras detect significant contaminants in your household bins, our first step is to let you know and to help you avoid making the same mistake twice.
If you notice a sticker has been placed on your bin, it means a contaminant has been detected. We may have found plastic in your green bin, bagged-up general waste in your yellow bin, or something prohibited like asbestos, in your red bin.
The sticker will contain a web address that directs people to important information on how to use their bins correctly and the consequences of not following this advice.
If contamination is found on three occasions within a specific timeframe, the customer will be required to remove the contamination at their own expense before their bins are emptied.
If more contamination is found within four weeks of a third offence, the yellow and green bins will be replaced with general waste bins for a minimum period of six months, and this will incur an additional fee to be paid on top of the standard bin collection fee.
At the end of the six-month period, full bin collection service and a return to normal fees will commence if the customer commits to ensuring that further bin contamination will not happen.
Rural service
People living in rural areas have a two-bin service:
- recycling (yellow) - collected fortnightly; and
- landfill (red) - collected weekly.
The standard service is for a 240-litre yellow bin and a 140-litre red bin.

Town service
People living within town limits have a three-bin service – FOGO (green) collected weekly and recycling (yellow) and landfill (red) collected on alternate fortnights.
The standard service is a 240-litre green bin, a 240-litre yellow bin and a 140-litre red bin.
