Bemboka has been chosen as the location for the Shire’s newest piece of public art.

Simon Pankhurst’s winning sculpture ‘Out for a Stroll’ will sit nicely in the rolling landscape of the valley that surrounds Bemboka.

This will be the fourth art work Council has acquired on behalf of the community from the annual Sculpture Bermagui exhibition. Grand works are already in position at Short Point, Eden, and Bermagui.

Mayor Kristy McBain said the installations had enhanced the streetscape of our towns and villages.

“We’ve seen these sculptures become a real talking point in their host towns, and add to the colour and interest of local life,” Cr McBain said.

A potential site for the sculpture is on the corner of Snowy Mountains Highway and Adams Street, because of its maximum exposure and how it sits in relation to the mountains in the distance, however the exact location has not yet been determined as Council seeks further feedback from the local community and NSW Roads & Maritime Services.

The proposed location has already received some positive feedback from a number of community members and organisations, including Bemboka Lions Club, with some suggesting that plantings around the base of the sculpture could also be added.

Bega Valley Shire Council welcomes further comments regarding the location from the community.

Please send comments and suggestions to – pcross@begavalley.nsw.gov.au or call 6499 2201. The comment period closes on Friday, 2 March.
