The Joint Regional Planning Panel (JRPP) has made recommendations that progress a long talked about bulky goods – hardware style development at Tura Beach.
Mayor Kristy McBain has welcomed the news and the jobs, growth and tourist potential the development embodies.
“It’s great to get some direction and clarity on this issue, finally there is a way forward,” Cr McBain said.
Plans to build a Bunnings store on two blocks of land on the corner of Sapphire Coast and Tura Beach Drive have been the subject of interest since 2012.
Bega Valley Shire Council has twice endorsed the rezoning of the land. However the NSW Department of Planning who is the body responsible for all land zoning matters across NSW has so far rejected the idea.
In November last year, the Minister referred the matter to the JRPP for advice and consideration.
The JRPP’s findings have just been published and while again rejecting the rezoning the five person panel have made a number of recommendations that point to a way forward for the developer.
“The option is there for Bunnings to submit a new planning proposal that addresses concerns around the buildings impact on the surrounding residential area,” Cr McBain said.
“Council will continue to work closely with the designers to ensure a positive outcome for our community and regional economy.”
Among other things the JRPP recommends, Council impose height restrictions on the land along with measures that take into account landscaping, siting, setback, acoustic concerns, and hours of operation.
“We are hopeful of progressing this matter and await the next move from Bunnings,” Cr McBain said.
