Council resolves next steps for tenure arrangements at Merimbula Airport
Bega Valley Shire Councillors resolved at the 20 March Council meeting to further extend the tenure of some existing tenants including businesses at Merimbula Airport while the General Aviation precinct is developed ahead of occupation.

Bega Valley Shire Councillors resolved at the 20 March Council meeting to further extend the tenure of some existing tenants including businesses at Merimbula Airport while the General Aviation precinct is developed ahead of occupation.
Mayor Russell Fitzpatrick said Councillors understand that current tenants may need assistance in the transition period.
“This is why we resolved to support businesses with a 12-month extension to their leases and enter into additional 12-month leases for some of the lessees,” Cr Fitzpatrick said.
“Council’s position has always been to grow opportunities at Merimbula Airport for appropriate businesses and recreational users, and Councillors reinforced this position yesterday.
“We understand there are significant costs involved in establishing or relocating at the airport and the additional lease extensions will give lessees likely to transition to the new General Aviation precinct time to organise funding opportunities that could assist with a move to that area.
“Additionally, we resolved to issue letters of support should any of the businesses seek grant funding from external bodies to relocate or establish their businesses within the General Aviation precinct.
“It’s in everyone’s interest to grow the airport’s capacity to provide key aviation services as the shire continues to attract more visitors through the doors of its airport.
“However, we are conscious of ensuring Council manages the airport in a responsible way that doesn’t put any additional financial impost on ratepayers that benefits any particular business interest.
“Negotiations will now progress further with future lessees including those existing tenants proposed to relocate.”
