Tertiary scholarships awarded

Six students from the Bega Valley Shire will soon have a helping hand with their studies thanks to the latest round of Council Tertiary Scholarships.

Six students from the Bega Valley Shire will soon have a helping hand with their studies thanks to the latest round of Council Tertiary Scholarships.

A total of $5000 will be awarded to the students during a special presentation at the Bega Valley Commemorative Civic Centre on Wednesday.

Mayor Michael Britten said the annual scholarships presentation is always looked forward to as it represents a new generation of young people who are seeking professional qualifications and careers whilst living in the Bega Valley Shire.

“Presenting the scholarships to these six students is a delight, and we thank them all for investing in their communities by incorporating the Shire in their future plans,” he said.

This year’s scholarship recipients are:

  • Emily Ferencz from Lochiel who is studying a Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care through TAFE Illawarra.
  • Carl Angove from Buckajo who has just signed up for an apprenticeship in Engineering and Trailer Making through TAFE Illawara.
  • Jessica Ford from Wolumla who is studying a Bachelor of Medical Science (Pathology)/Bachelor of Forensic Bio Technology by distance education through Charles Sturt University.
  • Marny Cummings from Merimbula who is studying a Bachelor of Nursing at the University of Wollongong.
  • Hollie Russell from Merimbula who is studying a Masters in Teaching (Primary) through the University of Wollongong.
  • Priya Benjamin from Bega who is studying a Bachelor of Business Administration through the Australian National University.

The presentation will be held at the Bega Valley Commemorative Civic Centre on Wednesday 13 April 1:30pm. Awards will be presented in the Biamanga Room or the Centre’s foyer depending on numbers.
