The Bega Valley's deep and valuable pool of volunteers has been bolstered with 30 community based organisations making the most of three Council backed workshops.

The Bega Valley’s deep and valuable pool of volunteers has been bolstered with 30 community based organisations making the most of three Council backed workshops.
Held in Bega, Bermagui and Eden, the Way2Go Volunteer Workshops attracted groups that represented the rich diversity of volunteering opportunities in our region.
Those who took part included the Cobargo District Museum, Police Citizens Youth Club, Southern Woman’s Group, Pearl’s Place, Sapphire Coast Social Justice Advocates, Montreal Goldfields, Quaama Progress Association, Sculpture on the Edge, Far South Coast Landcare, The Hotel Australasia Group and Tura Beach Floral Reserve.
Peter Cross, Place Based Officer with Bega Valley Shire Council said, “Council organised these workshops to support our community’s hard working and committed volunteer organisations, with some practical tools to help them attract, retain and support their volunteers.
“The sessions were rewarding for all those who took part, and covered the National Volunteering Standards, recognition of volunteers and volunteer management,” he said.
The groups who took part will also have ongoing access to the online Way2Go Volunteering Toolkit valued at about $300
Funded in partnership with the NSW Department of Family and Community Services, the workshops were facilitated by the Albury Wodonga Volunteer Resource Bureau.
“The workshops also provided an opportunity for people to network and discuss common opportunities and challenges,” Mr Cross said.
“Council also gained valuable insights into what future workshops and training might be needed by local volunteer groups.”
