Accidental Aid Worker author talk
Sydney based author, Sue Liu, will share her experiences of the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami during a tour of the Tura Marrang and Bermagui libraries on 17 and 18 October.

Sydney based author, Sue Liu, will share her experiences of the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami during a tour of the Tura Marrang and Bermagui libraries on 17 and 18 October.
The self-published author of ‘Accidental Aid Worker’ is visiting the Shire in partnership with Bermagui U3A and Merimbula U3A as part of an author tour of the NSW South Coast.
Libraries Programs and Partnerships Officer, Scott Baker said that Ms Liu will share her thoughts on working for 12 years as an aid worker and the impact this has had on her life.
“With Ms Liu’s background and her stories from working in war zones and places hit by unimaginable natural disasters, I expect her talk to be very inspiring,” he said.
A determined Ms Liu stumbled into voluntary aid work in the wake of the 2004 tsunami. She teamed up with a tour guide and a Catholic priest to deliver aid and support to tsunami refugees who were still suffering from civil war, in the Sri Lankan town of Trincomalee.
Ms Liu said that she hopes to inspire others to take action when people are in need.
“I couldn’t keep these stories to myself anymore and I think my struggles will resonate with a lot of people.”
“There are plenty of places to laugh with and at me, and plenty of times to commiserate. I recommend reading it with tissues and a glass of wine,’’ she said.
Signed copies of ‘Accidental Aid Worker’ including a special bookmark and numbered token will be available for $35.00 at these events, with $5 from each book supporting a community project.
Sue Liu will talk about ‘Accidental Aid Worker’ at Tura Marrang Library at 10am on Monday 17 October, and at 11am on Tuesday 18 October at Bermagui Library.
