Two significant local projects have been nominated in the NSW Local Government Excellence Awards.

Two significant local projects have been nominated in the NSW Local Government Excellence Awards.
General Manager, Leanne Barnes said, these are one of the most prestigious awards in the sector and we are delighted for staff and the community to be involved.
Bega Valley Regional Gallery has been nominated for the ‘Excellence in Creative Communities’ award for The Shirl – National Youth Portrait Prize.
Boasting a $10,000 purse, ‘The Shirl’ is a spin-off of The Shirley Hannan National Portrait Prize and is the only Australia-wide youth portrait prize.
The Eden Breakwater Wharf project has also received recognition, nominated in the ‘Excellence in Local Economic Contribution’ category.
When complete the new wharf will enable Eden’s increasing number of visiting cruise ships to tie up at Snug Cover; passengers disembarking on dry land rather than coming ashore in tender boats.
“Both these projects demonstrate the vitality of this community and Council’s role in empowering and coordinating a vision for the future,” Ms Barnes said.
“These nominations build confidence and encourage more ideas.”
Other Councils nominated in the same categories include Campbelltown City, Central Coast, Mosman, Tweed, and Narrabri.
The judging panel at Local Government Professionals Australia pointed to the large number of quality entries this year and the gruelling process they went through to determine the finalists for each category.
The Highly Commended and Winners of each category will be announced at the LG Awards Dinner on April 6 in Sydney.
“We are very proud to be part of the Local Government sector, delivering for communities across New South Wales so it is great for staff to be recognised in this way by their peers and celebrate their work in the community,” Ms Barnes said.
