Youth opportunities project for Eden

Young people in the Eden area are taking the opportunity to engage with local businesses to strengthen community relationships and create local job opportunities.
Students are taking part in an innovative new Youth Opportunities Project called ‘Generation Innovation’ developed by Bega Valley Shire Council in partnership with Community Training Partnerships.
To kick off the program, students from Eden Marine High School recently participated in the ‘Gen-I’ Bootcamp where they developed their ideas for projects that will create positive social change for Eden.
At the camp, students gained an understanding of the importance of building and maintaining positive community relationships and built their communication, teamwork and project management skills.
Anne Cleverley, Council’s Community Development Co-ordinator said it was inspiring to see the innovative project and business ideas that the students came up with on the camp, their enthusiasm was contagious.
“The students are excited about turning these ideas into reality with the support of local mentors and business owners and we look forward to seeing what they will achieve together in the Eden community,” she has.
Following the camp, selected students will go on to attend the Generation Innovation 12-week program to build their skills and work on projects that will benefit the Eden community.
The Gen I project will be launched at noon on Thursday 9 June at the Eden Log Cabin. Community members and businesses are warmly invited to attend to hear more about the project and how they might support these young entrepreneurs and community drivers.

The project has been funded through the NSW Department of Family and Community Services via Youth Opportunities grant funding.
