Community feedback shapes future of Bega clock tower

Bega Valley Shire Council has taken to the streets of Bega to build on the feedback already collected from the community on the preferred location of the Dr Evershed Memorial Clock Tower in Bega.
Over 200 people spoke with Council staff across three hours at Friday’s (April 1) listening post in Littleton Gardens. One hundred of those people left written comments over 15 pages and many also placed a purple dot on an aerial photo of the township signalling their favoured site.
The decision to relocate the clock tower was made at a Council meeting in February on the back of safety concerns for road users and pedestrians using the Gipps Street and Carp Street intersection.
Manager of Community, Culture and Information, Simon Schweitzer thanked the community for the spirit in which they took part in Friday’s listening post.
“We have received quite a bit of correspondence already on the issue and there has been quite a lot of feedback via social media,”
“Clearly this is an important issue for the people of Bega and staff will be collating all the feedback received and feeding that back to Councillors ahead of their May meeting,” he said.
Separate meetings with a number of stakeholder groups will also be held over the next week.
