About Bega Valley Youth Speak

Bega Valley Youth Speak is responding to what local young people have told us are the biggest challenges they face living in the Bega Valley shire.

The Bega Valley Youth Speak program was created as a direct response to the findings of Council’s 2020 Youth Speak Survey

Youth Speak includes:

  • the Bega Valley Youth Forum held on Friday 27 May 2022,
  • the Future Shaper camp held in early July 2022
  • Future Shaper Pop-Up events at local libraries in August 2022
  • Future Shaper Mixer event on 26 August as part of the Festival of Daring Possibilities
  • ongoing Future Shaper project development starting August 2022
  • a growing range of social events and personal interest-based activities being developed in partnership with organisations working with young people across the shire.

The catalyst – 2020 Youth Speak Survey

In the Youth Speak Survey, we heard from 270 young people about the issues that are affecting young people, the barriers that may prevent them from achieving their post-school goals, and projects they would love to see happen in the valley.

Youth Forum inspires Future Shaper projects

The 2022 Bega Valley Youth Forum brought more than 100 young people together to build on those findings and to begin developing ideas for addressing key issues through the Future Shaper program

So, come join a growing band of young people working together to make the Bega Valley shire a better place. You will be supported by experienced community mentors to participate to your capacity – contribute an idea for others to develop or go all-in to turn ideas into reality. Choose your experience!

The Youth Speak project is funded through the NSW Government Bushfire and Community Recovery and Resilience Fund.
