Bega Valley Shire Council is seeking feedback on the Draft Merimbula Airport Master Plan.

Council’s acting Manager Project Development, Sam Watson said the master plan is a forward-looking document ensuring all reasonable requirements for the site are considered now.

“While the current master plan does not expire until 2033, a review was needed,” Mr Watson said.

“We are using current trends and extrapolating 20 years from now to determine what the site might need to look like in the future.

“Working backwards from there, we will develop a staged delivery plan outlining the steps needed to achieve this outcome.

“This is a challenging task for a site that is constrained by the Merimbula Lake on one side and the Tasman Sea on the other.

“During the first Have your Say in 2023, we asked the community about the airport’s purpose and vision, and we asked what was most important to its users.

“We have since reviewed and compiled the feedback and have incorporated it all into the Draft Merimbula Airport Master Plan.

“We are now seeking the community’s feedback on the draft document before it is adopted by Council.

“The final master plan will direct the Merimbula Airport planning from now until 2043, assisting with project planning and sourcing funding.
