This week’s visit by his Governor General, Sir Peter Cosgrove and Lady Cosgrove will be long remembered throughout the Bega Valley and especially by the people of Eden.
A surprise visit on Tuesday to the Eden Childcare Centre left staff and children delighted at the interest taken in this important community service.
Council’s Manager of Children, Families and Ageing said the visit highlighted the great work done in local childcare centres.
“I think many of the staff are still pinching themselves, but none more so than Acting Nominated Supervisor Annette Coleman who was thrilled to be awarded a Governor General’s Medal for her leadership of this wonderful centre,” she said.
“The staff were so pleased at the questions asked and interest shown by Sir Peter, and Lady Cosgrove.
“They were very much at home with the staff and children; with Lady Cosgrove reading a story and both of them signing our classroom smartboard with a message saying that the Governor General and Lady Cosgrove both love Eden,” Ms Brenner said.
Mayor, Kristy McBain joined in the fun and was also awarded a Governor General’s Medal for her leadership skills and can-do personality aimed at accomplishing goals for the community.
“It’s an honour to receive this medal, and we are all very proud of Annette for receiving her well-deserved award also.
“Having the Governor General and Lady Cosgrove see so much of the Shire during their visit is a real boost for the local area, and to have them both visit the Eden Childcare Centre and to say that they both love Eden, was the icing on the cake.
“We welcome them both back anytime,” Cr McBain said.
The message written on the classroom smartboard read: “GG loves Eden, so does Lynne Cosgrove”.
