Development Consent - Events

Some events may require a formal development application (DA) before they can proceed. The requirement for a DA will depend on:

  • Land zoning of the proposed site
  • Existing development approvals at the proposed site
  • Nature of the event
  • Nature, size and height of any temporary structures
  • Size of the event
  • Frequency of the event (if recurring)
  • Potential impacts on the environment and neighbouring properties
  • If the event no longer meets all relevant exempt development requirements under the NSW State Environmental Planning Policy (Exempt and Complying Development Codes) 2008.

Putting together the required documentation and plans for a DA and then assessment of a DA by Council can take several months. Please make enquiries at least 12 months to the Development Support Services team prior to the planned event date to ensure a smoother event planning process for your event.

A DA will not be required for temporary events that meet all relevant exempt development requirements. However, all events on public land that is owned or managed by Council require Council approval for the use of public land.

Event organisers should check with Council’s Development Support Services team via: council@begavalley.nsw.gov.au to see if a DA will be required for their event or not.
