Bega Valley Shire Council Rangers' respond to a range of animal and pet concerns including collecting stray animals and investigating complaints about animals.


Council's Rangers are responsible for investigating complaints and enforcing legislation throughout the Bega Valley Shire. Our Rangers work to provide consistent law enforcement to keep people safe and protect the environment, while ensuring community members can continue to enjoy the local area and lifestyle.

Most of the work done by Rangers is in response to requests from community members, and often involves an investigation.

Bega Valley Shire Council Rangers respond to a range of animal and pet concerns including collecting stray animals and investigating complaints about animals.

Rangers also patrol public land including reserves, beaches, bushland, and parking areas to monitor compliance in relation to parking and vehicle complaints, illegal dumping, unauthorised camping and vegetation vandalism.


What our Rangers can do?

We can assist in investigating or enforcing legislation that Council is authorised to respond to. This include

Companion animal management, including:

  • lost or roaming dogs
  • dangerous dogs
  • beaches and other areas where dogs are and are not allowed
  • barking dogs
  • keeping roosters and chickens
  • stock on public land
  • abandoned vehicles
  • parking enforcement, including school zone
  • illegal dumping and litter control

What our Rangers cannot do?

Council Rangers cannot respond to matters that fall under the jurisdiction of other agencies, such as police matters.
