Plot reservations
Bega Valley Shire Council offers interment services so you can purchase a Perpetual Interment Right (formerly known as a Burial Licence) for your chosen place of rest.
How reservations work
Where reservations are available, plots can be pre-reserved by contacting Council staff.
A fee is payable at the time of reservation and gives the holder the entitlement, upon their death, for their remains to be buried in the allocated plot.
Interment rights cannot be sold to third parties. However, they may be relinquished back to Council for a refund of the original purchase price or transferred to a family member, subject to Council approval.
Changes to reservations in selected cemeteries
Following a resolution of Council in May 2026, new reservations for conventional burial plots will not be accepted for a six-month period at the following cemeteries:
- Bega
- Eden
- Pambula
- Bermagui
A conventional burial plot is a traditional space which has room for a headstone.
During this six-month period, burial plots at these locations will be allocated at the time of need rather than reserved in advance. This temporary measure is intended to help ensure burial space remains available for the community while Council reviews future cemetery capacity and management options.
Second interments in double depth burial plots can still be reserved for spouses or family members where applicable.
Reservations remain available at other cemeteries across the Bega Valley.
Existing reservations
If you currently hold a reservation for a burial plot at Bega, Eden, Pambula or Bermagui cemeteries and believe it may no longer be required, you are encouraged to contact Council.
Council may also contact reservation holders where details are available to confirm whether reservations are still required.
Where a reservation is relinquished, a refund will be provided in line with the original interment right certificate.
Under the Cemeteries and Crematoria Act 2013, Council may cancel a reservation where no interment has occurred within 50 years and reasonable attempts have been made to contact the holder.
