Water Fill Stations

Water Fill Stations can be accessed by the community and visitors for drinking water.

We’re upgrading our water fill stations!
As the rollout of our new water filling stations begins across the shire, we're improving accessibility and convenience for our customers. Each upgraded station will feature an onsite EFTPOS payment system, making it easier than ever to access water when you need it. More details are available on our project webpage.

Water fill station locations

We have nine water fill stations at the following locations:

• Bermagui: Sherwood Road, Bermagui (D, F)
• Cobargo-Quaama: Glisson-Watson Road off Princes Highway, south of Cobargo (D,F)
• Bega: Lagoon Street, North Bega adjacent to the Caltex Service Station (D,F)
• Tathra: Bega Street, Tathra adjacent to the Rural Fire Service shed (D,F)
• Bemboka: Kameruka Street, Bemboka opposite the Rural Fire Service Shed (D)
• Candelo: Eden Street, Candelo behind the Town Hall (D)
• Merimbula: Princes Highway, 2km north of Merimbula (D)
• South Pambula: Redfern Close, South Pambula (D)
• Eden: Barclay Street, Eden, adjacent the Eden Cemetery. (D)

Legend: D = water has undergone disinfection; F = fluoride has been added

Water Access and Fees

For the new (blue) water fill stations, the following information applies:

Customers do not need an account to access the new Water Fill Stations. Water can be purchased directly using the on-site EFTPOS facility.

Account cards will only be issued to customers who require regular, high-volume access. 

Available fittings include:

• Standard 12mm garden hose fitting.
• 80 mm camlock fitting.

Customers requiring a different connection size will need to supply their own adapter (for example, an 80 mm camlock to a 25 mm camlock adapter).

Customers must provide and use their own hose.

A minimum purchase amount of $1 applies. Water is charged at the current metered water rate of $4.10 per 1,000 litres for 26/27 financial year, consistent with the Revenue Policy 2026-27.

For the older (green) water fill stations, you can access water in two ways:

1. Small volumes at no cost for campers, caravans and recreational vehicles. This outlet will dispense 200 litres in about six minutes via a standard garden hose connection.
2. Large volumes are charged at the current metered water rate of $4.10 per 1,000 litres for the 26/27 financial year. This will be invoiced separately. Water is dispensed via a high flow, 75mm (3”) outlet. This outlet typically dispenses 1,000 litres in less than five minutes.

Safety information

Large volumes of water are delivered at high pressure. To ensure safe operation, do not use any valve downstream of the Water Fill Station.

Always use the Cancel/Stop Flow button on the Water Fill Station to stop the water supply to your tank.

Closing a downstream valve while water is flowing can cause excessive pressure, which may rupture the delivery hose. This may result in serious injury to yourself or others, as well as damage to your equipment and the Water Fill Station.

Take care when approaching and entering the Water Filling Station site. Pay particular attention to pedestrians, other vehicles, and signage.

Position the truck to allow safe and efficient access. Take care when stationary on the roadside, especially when entering and exiting the vehicle. Wear a high-visibility vest.

Minimise obstruction of the footpath and take all safety precautions including the positioning of safety cones to prevent the risk of tripping hazards or injury to pedestrians.

Account holder information

Customers requiring regular, high-volume access may apply for an account either in person at the customer service desk at Zingel Place, Bega or by emailing a completed account application form to council@begavalley.nsw.gov.au.

Multiple account cards can be issued for a single account at a cost of $10 per card. Cards can be collected from the Customer Service Desk at Zingel Place, Bega.

Accounts will be invoiced quarterly, with invoices sent to the postal or email address nominated on the application form. These accounts will be managed as separate debtor accounts and will not form part of property water bills, rates, or other council charges.

Unpaid accounts will be subject to debt recovery procedures. Access to the station may be suspended until all outstanding amounts have been paid in full, and Council reserves the right to revoke station access entirely for overdue accounts.

Operating Instructions - new (blue) stations

1. Connect your hose to the tap or 80mm outlet. Ensure hose is securely connected at both ends
2. Use the UP (+) button to select a dollar value
3. Press ENTER to confirm the selected value
4. Present your debit, credit or account card and then press ENTER
5. Select TAP OUTLET or 80mm OUTLET to start water flow
6. Press CANCEL/STOP FLOW at any time to stop water flow
7. Disconnect your hose

Credit and debit cards will be pre-authorised for the selected value. You will only be charged for the water you use.

A minimum purchase of $1 applies. If pre-authorisation is declined, this may be due to insufficient funds. Try again with a lower value or contact your card issuer.

Operating instructions - older (green) stations

To access water from the low flow rate outlet:

1. Simply click a standard 12mm garden fitting and hose on to the hose adapter on the unit.
2. Press the silver button adjacent to the brass hose outlet and water will begin to dispense immediately, up to a maximum volume of 200 litres. If more water is required, press the button a second time. To stop the water flow, press the same silver button and the flow will cease immediately.

To access water from the high flow rate outlet:

1. Obtain an i-Button key and access key from our Customer Service team at the front desk of the Bega Valley Shire Council office in Zingel Place, Bega or by calling (02) 6499 2222. The office is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 4.30pm. A bond of $24.50 (2026/27 Fees & Charges) is required per access key issued. Customer Service staff will request that you nominate a fill limit per transaction, up to a maximum of 10,000 litres and water charges will be billed to the nominated key holder's address quarterly. Please fill out the Public water fill station registration form(PDF, 185KB) and take with you to the office.
2. Attach a suitable combination of hose and connectors to the 75mm (3”) Camlock fitting, on the lefthand side of the station. Ensure your hose is securely attached to both the Water Fill Station outlet and your receiving tank.
3. Open the control box at the top of the station with your Water Fill Station access key.
4. Place your i-Button over the i-Button reader.
5. When confident all hoses are secure, press the Start button. The unit will then dispense water through the high rate outlet up to your nominated transaction limit, or otherwise 10,000 litres.
6. To stop water flow, press the Stop button and the flow will cease after a few seconds. To dispense water again, close the control box at the top of the station, reopen and repeat transaction steps from Step 2 above.
