Rates and Charges

If you’re a Bega Valley Shire ratepayer, you can expect to receive your annual rates notice from late-July each year, via post or email. If you are paying by instalment this annual notice is also your 1st Instalment notice.

Instalment notices are sent:

• 2nd Instalment – Late October
• 3rd Instalment – Late January
• 4th Instalment – Late April.

Rates are calculated from 1 July to 30 June each year and broken down into four instalments:

• 1st instalment - 31 August
• 2nd instalment - 30 November
• 3rd instalment - 28 February
• 4th instalment - 31 May.

If you are paying your annual rates in full, they must be paid by 31st August. Interest is charged on any overdue amount.

1. A variable 'rate in the dollar' based on your unimproved land value, which has been calculated by the NSW Valuer General. (This is often referred to as the ad valorem rate.)
2. A base charge, which is the same for all ratepayers
3. Other annual charges include water, stormwater, sewerage and waste.

Each year the NSW State Government through the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART) approves a maximum percentage increase in the total income a council can receive from rates, thereby limiting the amount of income a council can raise via general rates.

Council rates are exempt from goods and services tax (GST).

To receive your rates notices via email, you will need to register via eNotices.

Registration is a quick and simple process. Before you begin you will need:

• A valid mobile phone number
• A valid email address
• Your unique eNotice Reference Number (this can be found on the front of your most recent rates notice).

Once you are ready to register follow these 4 simple steps below:

• Step 1
  Visit the eNotice website Login (enotices.com.au)
• Step 2
  Select Sign up
  Enter your email address and eNotices Reference Number (found on your most recent rates notice)
• Step 3
  Check your email and follow the confirmation link
• Step 4
  Provide your email address or mobile number.

Already registered and but have forgotten your password? Head to eNotices and click on Forgot your password.

Concessions are available to ratepayers who live at the property and hold a valid concession card.

What is a Dual occupancy?

• Attached dual occupancy means 2 dwellings on one lot of land that are attached to each other but does not include a secondary dwelling (granny flat).
• Detached dual occupancy means 2 detached dwellings on one lot of land but does not include a secondary dwelling (granny flat).

What rates and charges will dual occupancy attract?

• X 1 base rate
• X 1 ad valorem rate
• X 1 Waste Management Charge
• X 1 140l red bin, x 1 240l Fogo green bin and x 1 240l yellow bin (option to

• A minimum of 2 water access charges.

The NSW Valuer General oversees the land valuation system and values all parcels of land in NSW. This is not a function of Council.
