Disability Inclusion Action Plan

Council’s Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) for 2026-2030, and our Easy Read version (coming soon), demonstrates our commitment to working with the community to make the Bega Valley Shire an accessible and inclusive place for everyone. This plan builds on the work delivered under the Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) 2021-2025.

We will promote and support access and inclusion by ensuring it is a key consideration in all areas of Council business. We will work to make it meaningful, achievable and measurable.

An inclusive community benefits us all. A diverse, inclusive community means there are more opportunities for everyone to contribute productively and build our combined economic wealth. Inclusion drives better health outcomes, better community connections and enriches our lives.

The plan was developed with our community and key stakeholders, including Council’s Access and Inclusion Advisory Committee, non-government organisations, people with disability, local schools and Council staff.

The DIAP identifies key focus areas for Council in dealing with improved access and inclusion. It is about changing attitudes and awareness, as much as it is about improving the accessibility of Council's services, facilities and activities.

Over the next four years Council will work to enable people with disability to have greater access to Council information, services and facilities. Council will also support employment pathways and opportunities for people with a disability.

The actions in this plan will benefit not only people with a disability, but older people, parents with young children and people with temporary mobility issues.

Bega Valley Shire Council’s Disability Inclusion Action Plan 2026-2030 was adopted on 19 August 2026.
