The objectives of this flood study are to improve understanding of flood behaviour, its impacts and to better inform management of flood risk to future development in the study area. No prior flood study has been undertaken for the catchment and available flood intelligence has been limited, relying primarily on historical observations.
Flooding in Cobargo township is driven by a combination of riverine flooding and overland flow. Narira Creek flows through the town from the confluence of Wilgo Creek and Murrabrine Creek and is the main source of flood risk to parts of the village.
This study involved the hydrologic and hydraulic analysis of the relatively small Narira Creek catchment area of 84 km2. Flood modelling for this study is consistent with the most recent version of Australian Rainfall and Runoff (ARR) Version 4.2. Where possible, this assessment is consistent with guidance included in the NSW Flood Risk Management Manual (DPE, 2023).
