Bega Valley Shire Lifeguard services over summer.
The beautiful beaches of the Shire are an amazing feature and provide so many opportunities for enjoyment and relaxing both in and out of the water. Please remember beaches and coastal areas are natural environments and conditions can change quickly. When on the beach please take care and look after yourself and others.
Surf Lifesaving and Lifeguard services are provided in the Bega Valley through a combination of our three local surf lifesaving clubs and Council managed contract lifeguard service.

Surf Lifesaving Clubs
Council would like to acknowledge the contribution of the of the Bermagui, Tathra and Pambula Surf Lifesaving Clubs, and the NSW Far South Coast Surf Lifesaving Branch for their contribution to beach safety in the Bega Valley. The three surf lifesaving clubs patrol weekends and public holidays during the Term 3 School Holidays, and then recommence in November through to April on weekends and public holidays. Council Summer Lifeguard Program 2024-2025
The 2024-2025 Summer Lifeguard Program will commence at 8 locations across our Shire on Monday 23rd December 2024 and finish Monday 3rd February 2024. The Australian Lifeguard Service (ALS) will deliver a high level of service to our community throughout the summer period, keeping our beaches safe alongside our local Surf Life Saving Clubs.
Tathra Beach Lifeguard February Extension 2025
Council acknowledges the contribution of the Tathra Chamber of Commerce and wider Tathra Community, who fundraise to extend the provision of weekday beach lifeguard services at Tathra Beach throughout February. This initiative provides a patrolled beach location for all residents and visitors to the Sapphire Coast to 'swim between the flags' weekdays through February until Friday 28th February 2025.
