Draft Local Infrastructure Contribution Plan on exhibition

Bega Valley Shire Council has resolved to place an updated draft Local Infrastructure Contribution Plan on public exhibition.
The plan includes specific provisions for fast-growing areas such as Wolumla and outlines how the infrastructure needed to support future growth could be funded.
Prepared by planning consultancy PolisPlan, the plan builds on the currently adopted infrastructure contributions plan and the Wolumla Structure Plan adopted by Council in June 2024.
“We know that Wolumla is a key growth area, and the proposed plan calls for new development to contribute to the cost of essential infrastructure as the town continues to grow,” Director Community, Environment and Planning, Emily Harrison said.
“These contributions will support the community through partly funding the development of projects such as roads, pathways and parks.
“While Council funds most of the infrastructure our communities rely on, the local contributions plan will ensure new development also plays a part in helping infrastructure grow alongside residential growth.
“While the proposed new plan applies to development right across the shire, a portion of the contributions raised from development in Wolumla will be set aside to support infrastructure projects in Wolumla. The remainder will contribute to facilities across the shire, which Wolumla residents will use and benefit from.
“We hope this provides a fairer outcome, noting the high level of projected residential growth in Wolumla over the next few years.”
Council has also reviewed planned infrastructure projects across the shire and updated population forecasts to ensure the draft plan reflects current data and priorities.
The draft plan is on public exhibition for 28 days, during which the community is invited to review the document and provide feedback through Council’s Have Your Say webpage.
Following the public exhibition period the plan will be brought back to Council, along with the feedback received, for final consideration and adoption.
